As part of the design-assist team for the new construction of Kalapuya Ilihi Hall at the University of Oregon, we provided comprehensive plumbing solutions for this 145,000-square-foot student housing and community space. Home to 531 students, the residence hall was designed to foster collaboration, academic engagement, and cultural inclusivity, achieving LEED Gold Certification with sustainable design features.

Our plumbing scope included:

• Plumbing infrastructure for student housing, supporting a mix of residential units, Resident Assistant rooms, and faculty apartments with:
  • Reliable hot and cold water distribution for kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry facilities.
  • DWV (drain, waste, and vent) systems optimized for multi-story residential use.
• Academic and community space plumbing, including:
  • Restroom facilities with high-efficiency, water-saving fixtures to align with LEED goals.
  • Hydration stations throughout the building to promote sustainability and student wellness.
• Commercial-grade kitchen and dining space plumbing, featuring:
  • Grease waste management systems for food service areas.
  • Backflow prevention and high-capacity water heating to support campus dining needs.
• Design accommodations for the Many Nations Longhouse, ensuring cultural and ceremonial needs were respected within the construction process.

By delivering sustainable, high-performance, and culturally conscious plumbing solutions, we helped create a modern, adaptable, and environmentally responsible student living space that fosters both academic and community engagement.
